OMG I made a maf just like x's intake and my engine blew up! I do NOT recommend going with this intake I fried my motor with one exactly like his.

Making a car run super lean or super rich is harmful to the motor, plain and simple.

If someone wants to make their own maf go for it. Don't dog on x's intake cause it costs $300 and state that it's a ripoff and that they can make one just like it.
i dont know what to say about all that, but i not buying one.

lean and rich is cool...

I think if you really are hell-bent on modding the MAF, you might as well buy X's, study it, and then try it / sell his. It just seems like the smarter choice would be, in fact, just buying X's from the beginning.

I'm curious though, what did you (xfactor) used to do for Subaru that involved this? I always wondered how just some random guy made an intake that performed so well lol. Definitely a + now that I know you had actual job experience with this.

I never stated that it was a ripoff...if you read the post it says I want a password jdm carbon fiber one...I believe in the plenum idea...its proven to work...see 5zigens fit...5 zigens accord type r...large plenums make it easier for the engine to breath...just like they do with itb's... I'm not knocking his, but I will be the only one on this forum, that doesn't use the complete x's intake...I even thought about buying his maf...trying a crv tube, but at the other end of my maf will be a password jdm carbon fiber intake...I don't care if I have 5 less horse power than everyone else on this site...but I pay the payment and I like carbon fiber!

It is my opinion that if you take your maf housing and start hacking it up, it will not only yeild you zero gains but like what was posted before, it might cause lean or rich conditions beyond what is acceptable for the engine resulting in detonation and worse. X has done a great deal of testing and work on this part and clearly has improved the performance of the cars that have his intake installed. I don't even want to try to "copy" his work because it is very difficult(I have tried) and takes time. Plus I would bet my paycheck that X has a good understanding of airflow patterns, drag cf and possibly fluid dynamics, there is no way that he just took the housing and guessed how to modify it properly hoping it would not only make power but not blow up the engine in his brand new 20,000+ car. This is just one mans opinion. Also the intake companys are Definitely listening, all of the injen ad's that I have seen lately are saying that the MR cai will not run lean( which is not true)and I am sure they will start to see their sales drop off as well. We will see what happens in the near future.

When I make posts and I sound like a jerk I don't mean to be. I just do NOT want anyone to harm their car by trying something that seems easy but really isnt. If everyone cares as much about their car as I do mine they would at the very least mod their maf and do some dyno runs to make sure thay they arent causing more harm then good.

X's intake seems expensive when you look at the price tag but if you add up the parts list he isnt making a killing off of them by no means.

COVER, AIR CLEANER NO COLOR $40.00
TUBE ASSY., AIR FLOW NO COLOR $32.00
APEXi Dual Funnel Power Intake 80mm $80.00+ shipping
The mounting bracket- guessing $10.00+ shipping
All of the connecting hoses prob another $10.00
Plus him shipping it to you runs prob $30.00

Total $202.00

Thats shopping online and waiting for them to ship it to you which he doesn't do, so i assume he spends a bit more on every piece buying it locally.

So for 90 bucks he is spending 3+ hours modding the maf AND hunting all of the parts, printing out instructions and shipping it to you which all takes time.

So if you want to save $100 by doing all of this yourself and modding the maf many many times to figure out the correct method and then spending $40.00 a run on the dyno to test it feel free.

the cover costs 24 dollars at the dealership, the tube assy is less than that... the power intake + flange will run you 80 bucks... so just those alone are more than $40 off your approximation...
