Amp Remote On How-To - Civic Sedan w/ Pics
Many people have been asking where to tap in to get a remote turn on for their amp.
I've got a Civic Sedan but from what I hear it's in the general area on the coupe. I belive on the coupe you need to remove the rear side trim to get at this wire. Here are some pics to help out for all the sedan owners. I picked up my remote amp on from the antenna amplifiers power source by tapping in at the rear seat. The first step is to remove the portion on the rear seat that doesn't fold down by removing the one 10mm bolt circled in the photo below then lifting up on the piece and pulling it out. To get to the bolt just pull on one the corner of the passenger side seat bottom and you should be able to see it. ![]() You should see two wiring harnesses behind this piece. One for the airbags and the other for the antenna amplifier. We want the one for the antenna amplfier which is the one with the White tape. Carefully cut open the loom a bit so you can get at the wires inside. Make sure that you don't cut or nick the wires in this process. You should see two wires that are stuck together at the insulation just like speaker wire. carefully cut between the wires to separate them for a couple of inches. Now you will need to use your multimeter to determine which one of the two is the 12v. The other will be ground. Make sure you have the stereo on when doing this check as this wire is only powered when the radio is on. ![]() Once you have found the 12v wire use a vampire tap to connect in your Amp Remote On wire. ![]() Now feed the wire up you your amp and secure it with zip ties. ![]() You should now have a remote on for your amp. Hope this helps. |

Has anyone found this in their Si? I'd like to assume it's there, but I'd rather have some confirmation. I'm planning on mounting my amp to the back of the larger seatback. I also plan on running the power cable under the center console, as in the stickied thread. But, if I can find a remote power tap-in that's not behind the factory hu, then that would be sweet.

T-Taps are an installers nightmare.Solder FTW! Be super careful when working around or in looms associated with the airbags. I have seen many, many installers setting off airbags with very low voltage, usually from speaker testers. Airbags are in yellow looms so be careful! Good luck! Test twice, cut once! Good tip |

Id prolly cut it and use a butt end connector, to many times ive had a t-tap stop working or be iffy if ever touched. Someone did that with my friends remote start used t-taps, effing nightmare, needless to say his car didnt want to start all the time.
Thank goodness, i didnt want to pull the radio out of the dash if possible, I also figure there is a remote lead for the XM thats running to my trunk as well. |

My gps randomly turns off due to a t-clamp, I solder and heat shrink now.
If you use an aftermarket HU, hook the antenna power wire from the car's connector directly to the accessory power wire of the car's connector and not to the power antenna output from the HU. My kenwood kvt-719 only powers the antenna when the tuner is on I don't know if any other HUs do this, but if you use the antenna wire to turn on your amp and have an aftermarkte HU, do this to be on the safe side |

I wish the images would load right now. My car is all stripped inside right now and I'd like to get this done before I have to get to sleep. ![]() |

i know, but i was making sure people realized this issue.
the power antenna unit is behind the rear passenger side pillar panel (above the rear deck between the rear passenger window and rear windshield). You can hook your wire into the antenna power wire there or follow the wire down to the rear seats if you want to tap in there. hope this helps |

Thanks for the DIY. I did this today.
Just wanted to add that the other wire is not a ground but a small coax cable that is the antenna. I didn't have a multimeter on me so I decided I would just cut and solder both the power and "ground" while I was in there. Didn't work out so well The antenna wire is a single strand of copper for the core and it's very thin.I also noticed that the antenna wire has a white line with writing on the jacket so there is no reason you need to make the same mistake I did ![]() tl;dr version : - Wires are actually Power and Antenna not Power and Ground - Antenna wire has a white line and writing on it - Don't cut the antenna wire it's very fragile |
