My new HO alternator

Seems quite a few people were asking about a new alternator for their car. I recently got a 200 amp alternator for my EX from Dominick Iraggi. His email address is dominick@tds.net. Everything so far works great and I couldnt be happier with it, so give him an email if youre looking for a HO alt for the new civics.

Anyway here are some pics of it. The chrome is optional.

I always hear good and bad things about Iraggi. Nice bling bling though. What does it make at idle?

What are the benefits of this, vs stock alternator?

Compared to the 80/90A alt he had before (forgot what EX has) it's a huge step. No dimming, more stable, can handle more current draw. Now he just needs to upgrade to 1/0 and he'll be set.

Time to e-mail him I guess. With the amount that I'm drawing this will definitely help.

1/0 guage is just really big lol. My amp only needs 4gauge so that's what i use but if i upgrade to 1000W or more, i'll have to upgrade my wiring. Some ppl start big to anticipage additions to their audio system.

btw, was that alternator just a drop in? i.e. did you have to make any modifications or did you just drop it in the factory location?

I've also heard some bad stuff about Iraggi but I have had no problems at all with him, always answers my emails quickly and is very helpful on the phone too. I am unsure of idle output, the people that I had install it decided to take off the overdrive pulley supplied with the alt and use the factory one, it will be a couple days before I can get them to change the pulleys back. I already have 1/0 gauge for all of the big 3 except the alt casing to frame as I ran out of 1/0 gauge ring terminals and no one sells them locally. The alternator is exactly the same as the stock one so no modification was needed.

Yes, 1/0 is the way to go. Handles more current which helps with voltage drops :) If you want some cheap 1/0, weldingsupply.com has some. But the biggest 1/0 I know of is Knu's Kol wire. It's huge. I know of some 4/0 if you want but its rediculous and I really really doubt you will be pulling enough current to need 4/0 lol

The alternator itself was about $440 and I ended up spending an extra $110 to get it chromed. Installation at a local shop ended up around $160 as well, even though it is a direct drop in I guess it was still difficult to replace. Something about a hydraulic tensioner or something.

Ouch! That is one expensive mod. An alternative to swapping the whole alternator is to use an overdrive alternator pulley on the stock alternator, like the ones at www.NonStopTuning.com. An overdrive alternator pulley will speed up the stock alternator and allow it to charge at lower RPMs which is great for people with upgraded systems and lights.

I use NST pulleys, their stuff is top notch and they are great people to do business with

Si has a 120 amp alternator and the base models have a 90 amp alternator. Not sure if its the same casing, but I would suspect it is.

I can vouch for Knu's Kol wire. I used 4-gauge on my Legend and will be using some on Si in the next few weeks or so.

IMO unless you are stricly making a show car I would not go with chrome because i heard that it is more likely to get hotter than it would if it were not chrome. The hotter you get the more likely it is for it to go bad.
