I Am Buying A New 2008 SI & I Have $30,000 In Re-Enlistment Bonus Money! What I/H/E?

I am a US Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and my four year term is almost up. I am 21 years old and a Sergeant and I work in Data and I was offered a full cash advance bonus of $30,000.00 to be stationed for four years at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. I live in Palm Harbor, Florida so my house is like 20 minutes away so this is going to be awesome. I should be getting all my money at the end of this week. :)

I originally bought a 2006 Honda Civic EX Coupe with Navigation Automatic in Rallye Red when I came back from Iraq in early 2006. It just has a Fujita Cold Air Intake and a Magnaflow Exhaust on it and it has like 18,000 miles. However, shortly afterward I met a girl on MySpace and we married a year later. My wife has a 2000 Honda Civic Sedan with like over 100 thousand miles on it so my plan is to give her my car and buy a brand new 2008 Honda Civic Si with Navigation and Summer Tires and HFP Body Kit in Taffeta White.

My Question is,

1) What is the best Cold Air Intake, Header, Exhaust combination?

I was thinking maybe:

CIA: Injen Cold Air Intake with MR Technology Polished

Header: DC Sports 4-2-1 Ceramic Race Header

Exhaust: Skunk2 MegaPowerR 70mm

2) Also, Is there emission testing in Florida because I don't want to get headers if I am going to fail it.

3) And will this setup work as far as the header and exhaust bolting on to each other perfectly?

4) And will I get CEL at all with any of these parts and if so what do I need to correct it?

5) What do you think will be my gains once this is all said and done?

6) Lastly, where would be a good place to go to get all these parts installed all at once? The Honda authorized dealer or like any exhaust shop?

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! :)

P.S. Oh yea. Is there any difference at all from the 06 SI and the 08 SI? Thanks! :)

Sounds like a good investment for your money! Smart thing to do! I would bet there are a lot of better ways to use your money like for some type of investment for retirement. But I know how most can't live with out blowing it on a car. I see it in the Navy all the time. Kids get a good re-enlistment bonus and blow it all on a car.

Tampa FTW!! I personally like Injen for CAI, but DC has/had problems with their flex pipe I think it was? Not sure about the exhaust, but 70 mm is really only nessesary when going F/I. Florida does not have emissions testing, and your gains will probably be around 10 to 12 whp. Sorry I couldnt answer all your questions. Hopefully someone else could fill you in more in depth.

holy hell that's alot of questions.

I would research the site for your answers everything has been discussed greatly. Think hard before putting down that kind of money to ensure you want 2 two door cars in the family. Best of luck and thanks for serving.

Hmm, I/H/E with 30,000 in enlistment bonus...

1)2 P2R Throttle Body Gaskets/Spacer and wait to see if PasswordJDM intake comes out soon/makes a ton of power

Vibrant Exhaust and Buddy Club Race Header

2) I don't believe there is emmissions testing.

3) They will all bolt up quite nicely.

4) As long as you put a defouler in the second o2 bung on the header, you won't have to worry about a CEL

5) I would guess around 20-25whp once all is said and done, without the intake, just the spacer/header/exhaust. You could add some pulleys and a reflash too ya know.

6) I can't help ya, I am from SoCal, but check in the regional forums to see where a good shop is in florida.

Congratulations on the bonus!!! And thanks for serving our country.

(p.s. save some of the money, trust me, when the time comes that you need it, you'll thank me)

Let's just say that my family has me taken care of as they already have an investment for me.... I joined the Marines for the patriotic duty, not to make money. However, this is my last four years in and then I am out bitches!!! lol :p

I heard that DC Sports fixed that problem with a newer revised model and it doesn;t break or leak any more. Also, I want to go 70mm because I want to leave room for expansion later on. Is that a good idea?

Yea I have been looking around the forums for threads the past 2 hours here at work and I seem not to get the questions fully answered. And she wants another Coupe. She is excited she is getting my car. And we both have agreed that we are not going to have babies in a loooooong time. We still are young, we are both 21 so we have our whole life ahead of us. lol

How much does that setup cost you just described? Like two thousand dollars? I want to leave some money to spare for other stuff too like Carbon Fiber and Rims. That's a lot of money for a little increased performance gain you don't think?

Also, where do I buy a defouler?

Thanks for the tips and advice man! :)

Mmmm...Myspace...bringing families together.

I'd skip the intake and spend a little more on the header. Either Buddy Club or Six Sigma Racing (Adam should endorse me. :D). I'd probably also skip the exhaust, but if you wanted, I think the Greddy Evo2 makes the most gains of them all (don't quote me on that). I'm not a fan of the grapefruit shooter look though, but if it works, it works :)

Dont forget to subtract ~30% in tax from the bonus...and too whomever of you said it's a good investment for the money...no, it's not. LOL a car is a depreciating asset...but whichever.

Enjoy you bucks and the ride, Sgt. Should be SWEET!!!

You're wastin a lot of money IMO with your plan.

If the 2000 Honda runs fine, why even sell it? Keep it till it falls apart. Sell your EX buy the Si. Put $10k of that money in an IRA, so buy the time you reach retirement you'll be swimming in money.

In total, w/o the intake, it will be around 1500, with the intake, probably 2000 you are right. Personally, you get what you pay for. I don't trust DC, but thats just my opinion, plus when tuning options come out, you will have greater gains with the Buddy Club. Supercharger/Turbo cost 4gs, give you around 50-60whp (Stage 1). 25whp aint to shabby.

Cheapest mod is definitely the Spacer, I would highly recommend.

As for the defouler, I believe you can get them at most autoparts stores.

i suggest for you to get the car how u want it and lil by lil do ur mods. as time goes by there will be more parts avail. if u want a nice header u can always go w the comtech header and keep ur cat. its a thought but wont produce the most power. what ever you pick you'll be happy though. or spend the extra cash on a greddy turbo kit and call it a day.

Come on folks, it's his money. I would personally go I/H/E and stop.

But to offer some perspective:

$10,000 in an indexed fund for five years would yield:

$ 24,261.33, contributing $100 a month. Double your money in five years, or spend it all now. Just helping you weigh options. Now think, ten years later (and you'd still be pretty young at 31):

$ 47,725.62

I'm 36, and I sure as HELL wish somebody told me to do that. I did other things, but I wished I saved a lot more in my twenties. I'd be practically retired by now. SAVE SAVE SAVE!!!

$0.02, interest not included. :D
