Looking to get some gains out of my little r18

I have a 2010 civic dx-g 5sp manual. i’m looking for tips, info, and advice for my little guy. This is my first car i recently bought, 19 years old. a kswap is out of question for now because my r18 only has 140km on it. i know saving for an si is always everyone’s input, but with the price i got mine for, and the life that’s still on my motor i don’t see a purpose of getting rid of it. so far i have a cold air intake and a skunk2 60mm catback exhaust for performance mods. and just some tein street advance coils.

i was looking at supercharging as i’ve heard it’s more reliable than turbocharging. but then again i’m not sure how i’d go about that. I’m content with my build so far. but any tips for little gains i would appreciate, or any feedback at all would be appreciated.

That’s a subjective ? How far are you going with this?? You need to boost the R18 to wake it up. What’s your budget are you ready to also replace wearable items as well. Example LCA slave cylinder brakes suspension thermostat to name a few. You just don’t slap parts on and go. There is a lot that has to come along with it to make it effective

Avg prices

Upgraded clutch 550
Bigger fuel pump 170
Custom headstuds 200
Bbk or better brake pads 400
Hondata 700
Tune 650
Guages 550
Guage pod 150
Engine mounts 450
Bigger radiator 170
Tbolt clamps 60
Downpipe 150
2.5 or 3 exhaust system 600
Total: 4800

Turbo kit 3594 add 99 for Rdx 410cc and pigtails
Kraftwerks supercharger kit 4205

Let’s not forget labor if you’re not installing all this yourself which varies by shop.

2500 to install all above

So your looking at
Turbo 10993
Supercharged 11505

Add another 400 to that if you want the skunk2 cam. The above is require don’t let others tell you otherwise. I been down this road already. We are not even talking about downtime
As well to get parts in and installation etc. have another car to drive as well. Now when you boost a car other parts will wear down as the car was not intended to be boosted and your handling will be bad as well. Takes to long to shift into gears sooooo Aka mod bug

Megan racing front/rear tie bars
Megan racing hbeam brace
Stoptech steel braided brake lines
Steel braided clutch line
Eibrach sway bars
Stoptech/DBA drilled rotors or slotted
Inshane axles
Hybrid racing short shifter
Etc etc

So yes you can do this on stock block but I can guarantee you will blow the motor if you don’t get custom headstuds and you can’t go over or even near 300whp/300tq as you will bend a rod. Ask me how I know lol.

I’m now fully built head fully built Shortblock fully built Mfactory transmission yes with HLSD added waaaaay bigger turbo every suspension mod in the book lol.

So look at the numbers above just to get started if you’re cool with that then welcome to actually modding a car but some of these parts will get discontinued as you’re seeing due to age and EPA. Boost options are drying up Fast for the 8th gen.

Oh and yes I have a back up full Kraftwerks supercharger kit. I’m manual transmission so Turbo all the way I’m going to build my friends auto 8th and use the kit on that should be some fun comparisons

One more thing have a place to get Hot state inspections as well cause after you boost you not passing an inspection since things will need to be tuned out. Most never think of that first.

So ask me anything I’m Truly fully built R18 civic. I’m not talking theory or maybes I have done it. Now I’ll doing it again with auto version all will be the same path just supercharged this time and if you have Choices Always go built motor so you are not limited you can buy entire low mileage r18a long blocks for 800 then just upgrade internals and turn up the boost for real power

preciate your help bro,

it’s a lot of money and work to boost it seems more than i thought. as this is my only car, i don’t have the ability to just start a whole project on this. as i said i only have a skunk 2 catback exhaust and a cold air intake. i think i may be having to stick with bolt on mods, what would suggest next? headers? downpipe? hondata? tune?

want to keep it simple but also fun. i’ve enjoyed the intake and exhaust so far. just trying to learn what my next steps should and could be

I kind of told you above what’s up. Everything you do should be geared around boosting this car. So to prepare it basically r18 does not wake up unless you add boost option whether turbo or supercharger sooo what can you do I mean time BUT SAVE UP FOR TURBO KIT OR SUPERCHARGER KIT

1. P2P throttle body spacer
2. Weapon r intake manifold
3. Egr block off plate
4. Hondata And a tune
5. Bigger fuel pump
6. Upgraded clutch for what your end goals are
7. Custom arp headstuds
8. Skunk2 cam
9. Megan racing downpipe
10. Exhaust system of choice
11. Megan racing radiator
12. Replace thermostat
13. Replace slave cylinder

no Point in header if your boosting save the money torwards kit. That some stuff you can change until you boost then a whole slew of options open up

hey bro, was thinking starting off by focusing on the exhaust and noise. i have a skunk2 megapower 60mm so far. i was wondering what else i could do to increase the idle tone and overall noise. i’m not where to look for things such as a down pipe. and i’m not too sure if i’d need a header. you told me i don’t but i’m not sure why, just curious

I would say go with ralco pullies but ok. Also a throttlebody spacer he’ll yea. As you stated you need force induction to gain ground but again if your going to get another car soon then cool hold off and see what’s next but if your in the car for awhile and want to have more fun boost is the answer. As I stated before boost options in general for both 8ths are drying up fast. So kits are limited unless you Know how to weld and fab.
Either way just enjoy your car and make it into what you want it for.

I was going to buy a throttle body spacer for my R18 but I read issues about the thermal gaskets. I'm assuming the gasket was revised given the threads were like 10 years old  The forced induction selection for R18 is dying for sure but seems like the K20's got a couple more years left.

Well just get the p2p thermal gasket and spacer. It works fine I had an extra one but sold it also I run it so all good.
Don’t know what your looking at but options for both platforms are actually extremy dry

si
Tsi extreme kit 3299
Cx racing kit 2199
Go-auto works 5059

R18
Tsi extreme kit 2999

both have Kraftwerks supercharger kit available

so other then the above which is actually available other kits are discontinued and you will have to buy kit used if you can find anybody selling it

Sooo extremely slim pickings
